Very interesting John Cleese video on creativity. Here’s some notes:
- There’s a part of our mind that helps us be more creative.
- The most dangerous thing when writing is to be interrupted.
“Where do you get your ideas from?” From our unconscious… the part that keeps on going when we’re asleep.
“So, what i’m saying is if you get into the right mood, then your mode of thinking will become much more creative. But if you’re racing around all day… generally just keeping all the balls in the air, you are not going to have any creative ideas.”
How to create a creative mood. You need to create a tortoise enclosure so your little nervous mind will feel it’s save to come out. You have to create an oasis that is separate from ordinary life by:
- Creating boundaries of space – to avoid the interruptions.
- Creating boundaries of time – give yourself a starting time and a finish time.
“To know how good you are at something requires the same skills as it does to be good at that thing.”
